<span style="font-family: inherit;">Back in November 2015 Zoe from <a href="http://sozowhatdoyouknow.blogspot.co.uk/">Sozowhatdoyouknow</a> put a call out for pattern testers for her (then) newly drafted Anya bag pattern. This is was my comment at the time -</span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , "trebuchet" , sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16.8px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , "trebuchet" , sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16.8px;">i Zoe, I'd love to make a bag and promise to get my a*** into gear and blog about it (I've been a lax blogger recently). If fortunate enough to be chosen, I think I'd make it in a faded denim, incorporating a detail or two from recycled jeans. And if I'm not fortunate, well I'll buy the pattern and do it anyway!</span></div>

<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: inherit; line-height: 16.8px; text-align: justify;">Well, I wasn't picked out of the draw to be a tester (shrewd move on Zoe's part, as it turned out!) but she did send me the pattern anyway as we'd met up at the V&A shortly before, and just because she's lovely.</span><br />

So... tadadadada dah...</span></span></span></span></div>

<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: inherit; line-height: 16.8px; text-align: justify;">I really enjoyed making it and I will definitely be making more more. It's surprisingly capacious - I'm thinking </span><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: inherit; line-height: 16.8px; text-align: justify;">of maybe using recycled embroidered table linen and using it as a travelling project bag for my sock knitting and embroidery. I</span><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: inherit; line-height: 16.8px; text-align: justify;"> took it to my textile group on Tuesday and got lots of compliments - so not bad for what is essentially a 'freebie' bag!</span><br />

<span style="color: magenta; font-size: x-large;"><b>Happy New Year!</b></span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I know the whole "New Year - all change" scenario is a bit of a cliche - and we all make resolutions that I bet no-one keeps for more than five minutes. The only one I had any real success with, was when I decided in 2015 that I wasn't go to buy any new clothes. I thought I'd only manage for a month or two, but I actually stuck to it for the whole year. In fact, while I'm not saying that I haven't bought ANY clothes since, its a very rare occurrence; as a result my dressmaking skills have improved no end (I never said I wouldn't buy fabric) and I usually wear Me-Made most days.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyway, I down-graded from the whole 'resolution' thing a couple of years ago, and made 'intentions' instead, which were a bit more successful if less challenging.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When I read Isobel's post <a href="http://threadnoodle.blogspot.co.uk/2017/12/words-for-living.html">HERE</a>, it seems that the current trend is to come up with an aspirational/inspirational word or three to guide you through the next 12 months..</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, that's what I'm going to settle for - one word to aspire to, or be inspired by for 2018.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, what word to go for? One that instantly came to mind was <b>'potter'</b>, but realistically that wouldn't have required <i><b>any</b> </i>lifestyle changes at all; then I considered <b>'declutter' -</b> but I've been there, done that, read the book and given the T shirt to the charity shop, and, let's be honest - I probably need to aim a little higher than spending 2018, basically tidying up my sock drawer.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-U7kqS6HwFIk/WkpT0NS9ElI/AAAAAAAAucc/3kjdTc_th1AyJcWaj_-cLXhNXG9G3La9ACLcBGAs/s1600/socks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="566" data-original-width="670" height="337" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-U7kqS6HwFIk/WkpT0NS9ElI/AAAAAAAAucc/3kjdTc_th1AyJcWaj_-cLXhNXG9G3La9ACLcBGAs/s400/socks.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyway, I quickly decided on ....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9c3Rp6fjYWQ/WkpTWJ0Ig1I/AAAAAAAAucY/g4A-WFncZWoJefg69Qo_eWP9lISvC-Q_gCLcBGAs/s1600/explorecropped.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1043" data-original-width="1600" height="208" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9c3Rp6fjYWQ/WkpTWJ0Ig1I/AAAAAAAAucY/g4A-WFncZWoJefg69Qo_eWP9lISvC-Q_gCLcBGAs/s320/explorecropped.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
(Absolutely <b>pathetic</b> Photoshop skills, I know)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm not sure how far that's going to take me - I think its unlikely that I'll be backpacking across Asia anytime soon but I AM going to explore more of Norfolk ("Oh, big deal" I hear you say) but there's lots of it that I've never visited, I've only been to Norwich a couple of times, so that's on the list. I'm looking forward to the Makers Month when there are lots of arty textile-y things going on.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've booked a long weekend break away on my own, and a few workshops which may involve my first foray into AIRBNB. I'm going to try another walking group - I love the Holkham Walking Women group but we basically stick to two venues - Wells or Holkham, so I'm going to find another one that varies the location too.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Obviously, its not just about geographical exploration. I've got so many art materials that I've not used and that I'm keen to try out. I definitely want to do some dyeing, and I'm going to try printing with a gelliplate.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm also going to go to find somewhere locally that has live bands, and if I can't convince anyone to come with me, I'm going on my own. I'm really excited about seeing Kasabian in the summer, but I want to be deafened by loud guitars before THEN!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I realise that none of that sounds ground breaking or exciting, but I HAVE only just thought about it and, after all, baby steps, yeah?<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #8e7cc3;">PS - I nearly forgot - I think I'm going to try Kayaking too - if it's possible that I can get in and out without falling in the water - what d'ya reckon???</span><br />
<br /></div>

Unlike <a href="http://ginaferrari.blogspot.co.uk/">some people</a> who make life difficult for themselves by committing to write a post for <b>everyday</b> of December, I have barely managed one! So, here it is.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Earlier this week I made a Christmas wreath ....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C-3RYC80BWU/Wj069p0jjWI/AAAAAAAAuaU/6I8XINId5KIAep9z7fW4dO-gSHGiydGQgCLcBGAs/s1600/wreath%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C-3RYC80BWU/Wj069p0jjWI/AAAAAAAAuaU/6I8XINId5KIAep9z7fW4dO-gSHGiydGQgCLcBGAs/s400/wreath%2B2.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Not my typical style - all very natural and rustic - not a sparkly bauble or ribbon or glitter in sight, but I was very pleased with it. I didn't have anything on the door that I could hang it from though, and I don't have the kind of door which takes one of those purpose-built metal wreath-hanging things, so I went to the Pound shop and bought a plastic suction lever hook. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
That lasted for <i>about </i>a day, before a clattering at the front door revealed that one hook wasn't man enough for the job.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Not to be defeated, I hastened back the next day and bought another two hooks and lined them all up next to one another, in the hope that if one fell off there would still be two more. A kind of 'belt and braces - and then another belt' idea. Anyway, so far its stayed put. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fg66FDuH3Gc/Wj067-qWgbI/AAAAAAAAuaQ/F0RnB4048YwggGrlHxpO8mVgAD1b6s6EwCLcBGAs/s1600/wreath1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="625" data-original-width="399" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fg66FDuH3Gc/Wj067-qWgbI/AAAAAAAAuaQ/F0RnB4048YwggGrlHxpO8mVgAD1b6s6EwCLcBGAs/s400/wreath1.jpg" width="255" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My other 'handmades' this month have all been made by other people - the first is Harold the Hare from <a href="http://www.flintcottagedesigns.co.uk/">Flint Cottage</a> who were at Thornham Christmas craft fair. He's made from recycled wood and painted lavender grey on one side and left natural on the other. Check out their instagram page <a href="https://www.instagram.com/flintcottage/">HERE</a> for other designs</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sHBemz5LnLs/Wj06_gAlgMI/AAAAAAAAuac/kOS6AsKqK0c4yNVikVnrzZO_Cg8Z1Y9bQCLcBGAs/s1600/hare2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="585" data-original-width="460" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sHBemz5LnLs/Wj06_gAlgMI/AAAAAAAAuac/kOS6AsKqK0c4yNVikVnrzZO_Cg8Z1Y9bQCLcBGAs/s400/hare2.jpg" width="313" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LcqBH3XYp5k/Wj06_kH24AI/AAAAAAAAuaY/NegtD1OQRJcI32eBC0KIBMj25bohrjj4wCLcBGAs/s1600/hare3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LcqBH3XYp5k/Wj06_kH24AI/AAAAAAAAuaY/NegtD1OQRJcI32eBC0KIBMj25bohrjj4wCLcBGAs/s400/hare3.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
He's going to sit in my window, but I've photographed him in front of my tree - just to prove that I am fully entering into the spirit of the festivities. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Then I helped out a friend at the Blackthorpe Barns Christmas Fair. I didn't seem to do very much 'assisting', but I did quite a lot of 'acquiring'.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I bought this wonderful handknitted and natural dyed cotton jumper by Jacki of <a href="http://www.island-knitwear.co.uk/">Island Knitwear</a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FwAoE11BmgA/Wj5bgI0Vu-I/AAAAAAAAubc/E4jsef34Feo0USOH4_pWVK7zZkCTRqk8wCLcBGAs/s1600/jumper.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="593" data-original-width="474" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FwAoE11BmgA/Wj5bgI0Vu-I/AAAAAAAAubc/E4jsef34Feo0USOH4_pWVK7zZkCTRqk8wCLcBGAs/s400/jumper.jpg" width="318" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
How's this for coincidence - I first met Jackie at a garden show at Capel Manor, Enfield about 25 years ago when I was married and living in Woodford. I bought two jumpers from her then, a natural colour one which unfortunately I no longer have, and a denim blue one - now somewhat faded, but which I still love and wear. By chance, she happened to have the next table to my friend at Blackthorpe. We swapped stories - I've divorced, she married, I moved to Hertford, she moved to Scotland, I moved to Norfolk, and she moved to Suffolk, and there we were - sitting next to one another at a craft fair. Now, you don't get that if you shop at Primarni.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Then a beautiful and unique clock, made from recycled timber - an old fence post - and slate, made by a very talented man who makes them as a hobby (and doesn't have a website I'm afraid) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tiCeEnAFLy8/Wj5TXGJSC0I/AAAAAAAAua4/JryYBdkvN4ARpSpjzWQbvll0ewiAjImwACLcBGAs/s1600/clock.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="616" data-original-width="428" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tiCeEnAFLy8/Wj5TXGJSC0I/AAAAAAAAua4/JryYBdkvN4ARpSpjzWQbvll0ewiAjImwACLcBGAs/s400/clock.jpg" width="277" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I love this, it now stands in my hall on a secondhand sideboard I bought in Dersingham, amongst my Dad's turned wooden bowls, pots and apples.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5FZAWCSg2TQ/Wj5W2yW4V6I/AAAAAAAAubE/ZxV5ZR3nXQo46GKduJPLeAcjaJHwAhNwQCLcBGAs/s1600/clock2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="447" data-original-width="608" height="293" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5FZAWCSg2TQ/Wj5W2yW4V6I/AAAAAAAAubE/ZxV5ZR3nXQo46GKduJPLeAcjaJHwAhNwQCLcBGAs/s400/clock2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And finally, a lovely stitched fabric picture from <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Spare-Time-by-Helena-369944096474265/">Sparetime</a> that I bought at the Christmas Fair at Burnham Deepdale.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I haven't suddenly turned into a shopaholic - in fact, since I decided not to buy clothes and to make my own instead, I mostly avoid shopping - but it is lovely to have beautiful unique things that give me pleasure whenever I see them. And I just totalled up what I spent - altogether my purchases add up to £160 - which equates to a quarter of a pair of the cheapest Jimmy Choos, or 134 packets of HobNobs, depending on how you measure your wealth.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<b>Wreath - Opeth (</b>For the uninitiated - including me until about five minutes ago - 'OPETH' is apparently a progressive death metal band from Sweden. Check out the track - you'll find its a great antidote to all the jolly Christmas music on the airwaves at the mo!)</div>

Back to simple sewing again. I made not one, but two <a href="https://shop.tillyandthebuttons.com/products/agnes">Tilly and the Buttons Agneses</a> (Agnii??) this weekend. Not very much to say about them, except that this is one of my favourite top patterns, its smooth and close fitting and is perfect for layering. I had bought some beautiful flamingo fabric on Thursday, and I was going to cut that out on Saturday morning, but I suddenly realised that I hadn't washed it, and although it was tempting to cut it out without bothering, well, we know how that sometimes pans out, don't we?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, as I'd got all organised and ready with my pattern, I had a hunt round to find what was washed - and I found some bunny fabric I'd bought sometime last year. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vPe1OQ5_lys/WhwB4pJKqMI/AAAAAAAAuWY/XQaIg4HM15obtZIZdDB5nIJ-p4RI73gSQCLcBGAs/s1600/bunnies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vPe1OQ5_lys/WhwB4pJKqMI/AAAAAAAAuWY/XQaIg4HM15obtZIZdDB5nIJ-p4RI73gSQCLcBGAs/s400/bunnies.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Oh yes, very age appropriate, as usual. I used my slightly adapted pattern - a size 5, graduated to a size 4 at the hips. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've mentioned before that I don't really go in at the waist, or indeed out at the hips. When you look at those 'know your shape' guides, I'm not a pear, or an apple, or a triangle, or a rectangle. I'm more a lumpy tube. Or, if I must be a vegetable, maybe a cucumber, gradually transitioning towards a marrow.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iTAH7EAtrIM/WhwB5kH2c3I/AAAAAAAAuWc/k6C7DQIDmxEXqPsQ8tEAWIeo9BAhCK0-gCLcBGAs/s1600/bunniestop.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="578" data-original-width="420" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iTAH7EAtrIM/WhwB5kH2c3I/AAAAAAAAuWc/k6C7DQIDmxEXqPsQ8tEAWIeo9BAhCK0-gCLcBGAs/s400/bunniestop.jpg" width="290" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Oh, and I lengthened the sleeves by a smidge too. Anyway, it was all done very quickly, all made up on the overlocker, apart from the neckline and the hems, which I topstitched with a twin needle.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I had left my cutting board out on the dining room table, so that I was already to go on Sunday morning with the washed and ironed flamingo fabric</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-spXPHuhhNYA/WhwB-6BzmiI/AAAAAAAAuWo/dgdfj5_tzqAZqQwF5IrbOU2Q_7dukPcrwCLcBGAs/s1600/flaningoes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-spXPHuhhNYA/WhwB-6BzmiI/AAAAAAAAuWo/dgdfj5_tzqAZqQwF5IrbOU2Q_7dukPcrwCLcBGAs/s400/flaningoes.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
I was up and dressed by 7am, and by the time I went out at 9.30 I had another Agnes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HNLIsdA-jCU/WhwB6VORkZI/AAAAAAAAuWg/eqj6CtxOwSgVDqKwLEnQ7oq3LRfLIm3UACLcBGAs/s1600/flamingoestop.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="631" data-original-width="459" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HNLIsdA-jCU/WhwB6VORkZI/AAAAAAAAuWg/eqj6CtxOwSgVDqKwLEnQ7oq3LRfLIm3UACLcBGAs/s400/flamingoestop.jpg" width="290" /></a></div>
Very satisfying. and enough left of the bunny fabric to made a dress for Gracie, once I've taken a pattern from one of her dresses. Much more age appropriate.<br />

I'm ridiculously delighted with my latest make, and I suppose I could just show you pictures, and tell you how I made it, but that wouldn't be me, would it?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The idea started in February this year when I was watching The One Show. Now, I don't often watch it, mostly because I'm usually listening to the Archers at that time, but occasionally, especially in the winter, I might catch the tail end of it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
On this particular episode they were interviewing Danni Minogue, and I really loved her shirt. You can see a little bit of it here</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BLSYY2QJyj0/Wf2s4qCCeyI/AAAAAAAAuVQ/BA2g3Timzrwby4I1kmch_mTmXaeyFv9bgCLcBGAs/s1600/3CF8AE4A00000578-0-image-a-2_1486584697714.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="751" data-original-width="634" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BLSYY2QJyj0/Wf2s4qCCeyI/AAAAAAAAuVQ/BA2g3Timzrwby4I1kmch_mTmXaeyFv9bgCLcBGAs/s400/3CF8AE4A00000578-0-image-a-2_1486584697714.jpg" width="337" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I haven't previously styled myself on Danni Minogue, nor indeed on either of the Minogue sisters.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
(Well, apart from the tiny gold leather hotpants, but in fairness I hardly EVER wear those anymore.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I just kept thinking about that shirt though, and after trying to find a similar one online to no avail. I then searched for fabric, and found something very similar from Higgs & Higgs - <a href="http://www.higgsandhiggs.com/cotton-classics-berry-stars-large-white-star-on-berry.html">here</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I'm ashamed to say it then languished on my ever-increasing pile of fabric, while I cracked on with quicker makes. But then I saw it again, and determined that it WAS going to become a shirt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I looked through my pattern stash, but there was nothing that exactly matched what I had in mind, then somehow I came across Simplicity 1538, which seemed just the ticket. I had a browse of the internet and saw some lovely versions, so that was the decision made.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pIjnInaE-qE/Wf2mn-6S7dI/AAAAAAAAuVA/58Yb5kz9ZVIx-YAwM_oXmY6dA4ky41mzwCLcBGAs/s1600/1538_env_front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1316" data-original-width="916" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pIjnInaE-qE/Wf2mn-6S7dI/AAAAAAAAuVA/58Yb5kz9ZVIx-YAwM_oXmY6dA4ky41mzwCLcBGAs/s400/1538_env_front.jpg" width="277" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I started on it last week and I made my mind up that I wasn't going to rush it (it's not like it was an 'emergency' garment project, but I wanted to make it slowly and carefully. I have made shirts in the past, with varying degrees of success, but not for many years.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I wasn't sure whether to go for a 14 or a 16, but in the end I went for the larger size, as I detest gaping shirt buttons. I made no alterations at all to the pattern I have to say it fits just as I wanted.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-isI4vk08Elg/Wf2x7INtkcI/AAAAAAAAuVo/DKE7jj-MobUisygO9FU6AxEJyUQH_x-bACLcBGAs/s1600/shirt3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="509" data-original-width="353" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-isI4vk08Elg/Wf2x7INtkcI/AAAAAAAAuVo/DKE7jj-MobUisygO9FU6AxEJyUQH_x-bACLcBGAs/s400/shirt3.jpg" width="276" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Thanks to my niece Sarah for taking the photos yesterday. I only wore it briefly for the photoshoot, as she had her two gorgeous girls Grace and Bethany with her and one or other of them always manages to smear me with some form of food detritus. Even when they're not eating.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
As I say, this wasn't a quick make - the shirt has a back yoke, a two-part collar, proper cuffs and front bands for both the button holes and the buttons. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I only mention this because I saw some cotton shirts in an expensive ladies dress shop whilst I was mid project, and they only had a band on the side where the button holes were, but the button side was just folded over fabric. AND they were more than five times what this cost me, which was just over 20 quid.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I used a soft iron on interfacting in the front band, collar stand and cuffs, and a slightly heavier weight in the collar, to make it crisp. The cuffs are <i>slightly </i>on the wide side, but it means you can move your arms without feeling restricted, which is a good thing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Its always a bit nerve wracking making the button holes - the rest of the garment is finished and nigh on perfect, and it only needs ONE disastrous buttonhole .... but I had several practice goes on a scrap on interfaced fabric, and all went well. That just left the vintage pearl buttons which I sewed on with red thread. I won't put it in the wardrobe at the moment, I just want to look at it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I will definitely be making more of these, and it lends itself to using contrast fabrics for some parts of the shirt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Anyway, thanks for the inspirations Danni</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Incidentally, other thing to come out of that episode of The One Show - I started watching Nashville from Season 1 (starring Sam Palladio - the guy with the guitar). I'm on the last season now which I bought as a Box set and now I'm having to eke out the remaining episodes as I'm going to miss them when they're gone!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Right, must go - I'm off to try on the shirt with the gold leather hotpants....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Yesterday was the Textile coffee morning at Thornham, and surrounded by all those lovely textile-y ladies, I always feel duty bound to wear something I've made. It was a bit chilly when I went out, so I wore my newly 'pimped' charity shop jacket. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I bought the tweed jacket a couple of years ago from a charity shop in Pokesdown near Bournemouth when I was staying with my cousin Annie. I was attracted to the colours - purples and maroons - it was 100 per cent wool, fitted perfectly and I seem to remember it was six quid. Even better - when I tried it on, the pockets were still sewn up and I don't think it had ever been worn.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Its been hanging up in my wardrobe, awaiting transformation ever since, so this weekend I finally decided to customize it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I changed the two plastic buttons on the jacket for two beautiful vintage glass ones (they cost more than the jacket!) - and then I added an assortment of others, some vintage, some new. In fact, the purple heart button was one I'd made in my pottery class. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pzVXqYK4d7U/WcKHQve1rPI/AAAAAAAAuPo/8axs66QcwRoe2zfvxz55t4tVIsS8t0fZACLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_0833.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pzVXqYK4d7U/WcKHQve1rPI/AAAAAAAAuPo/8axs66QcwRoe2zfvxz55t4tVIsS8t0fZACLcBGAs/s400/IMG_0833.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I added a bit of vintage lace to one of the pockets, and some velvet ribbon to the cuffs, and a few tweed patches. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JhfJq04PW2g/WcKHTAWHS-I/AAAAAAAAuPs/oGMBvNOwuKkJdZbFuxmG5qXRBXmAyfwXACLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_0836.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JhfJq04PW2g/WcKHTAWHS-I/AAAAAAAAuPs/oGMBvNOwuKkJdZbFuxmG5qXRBXmAyfwXACLcBGAs/s400/IMG_0836.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now I think about it, this must have been planned for quite a while as I'd bought a pack of tweed offcuts from <a href="http://www.fabricaffair.co.uk/">FabricAffair</a> at one of the Knitting/Stitching shows ages ago.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I also added a beautiful tweed corsage made by my friend <a href="http://www.sarahburtdesign.com/">Sarah Burt</a> from the Thornham textile group </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XhcpDEfO82U/WcKHPvo2aLI/AAAAAAAAuPk/nsEvIvXWXCYcwlVaVXwQtB1k7XuQrFOfgCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_0832%2B-%2BVersion%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="438" data-original-width="339" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XhcpDEfO82U/WcKHPvo2aLI/AAAAAAAAuPk/nsEvIvXWXCYcwlVaVXwQtB1k7XuQrFOfgCLcBGAs/s400/IMG_0832%2B-%2BVersion%2B2.jpg" width="308" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyway, I'm really pleased with how the jacket turned out it and it got a few nice comments, and when we went to the Deli next door for more cofee, I remembered to get some photos for the blog.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tECIv8NFcxQ/WcKHLxkNTNI/AAAAAAAAuPY/SS1jKp8YQWYXR2t-voyQwx7tgR3bwBElwCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_0819.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tECIv8NFcxQ/WcKHLxkNTNI/AAAAAAAAuPY/SS1jKp8YQWYXR2t-voyQwx7tgR3bwBElwCLcBGAs/s400/IMG_0819.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Underneath the jacket I wore my first Esme dress from the <a href="http://jansdotter.com/lotta-jansdotter-everyday-style-blog-tour/">Lotta Jansdotter Everyday Style book</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XW0AD95-O50/WcKHK2CyPwI/AAAAAAAAuPU/ZxptVNqiBy4-5_PrPhzJPFWY1jaXMZR1wCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_0804.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XW0AD95-O50/WcKHK2CyPwI/AAAAAAAAuPU/ZxptVNqiBy4-5_PrPhzJPFWY1jaXMZR1wCLcBGAs/s400/IMG_0804.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ignore the pose - I was getting advice from the group on the most flattering way to stand for photos - but it just looks as if I've lost a leg. I don't remember that happening to Mrs Beckham. Anyway, here's the alternative pose, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MhntLYIBGUE/WcKHM_QpjmI/AAAAAAAAuPc/TLBw6NO7boQyGz6bjoqiwIImQrL1KvBHQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_0823.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MhntLYIBGUE/WcKHM_QpjmI/AAAAAAAAuPc/TLBw6NO7boQyGz6bjoqiwIImQrL1KvBHQCLcBGAs/s400/IMG_0823.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
and a close up - excuse the creases, I'd been sitting down for a few hours. The fabric is a lightweight chambray with little stars on. </div>

I love the pattern - really easy to follow, simple to make, and I'll be making more from this book.</div>

I have just made a <a href="about:invalid#zClosurez">Named Clothing Paola Turtleneck Tee</a>. It takes almost as long to say that as it does to make it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0KZ0VvIb_lA/WaLS11K7gWI/AAAAAAAAuNs/hXndZxXbhWIr5tIVeWiOtZtavgzra8idACLcBGAs/s1600/paola%2Bcrop.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1187" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0KZ0VvIb_lA/WaLS11K7gWI/AAAAAAAAuNs/hXndZxXbhWIr5tIVeWiOtZtavgzra8idACLcBGAs/s400/paola%2Bcrop.jpg" width="296" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This all came about because I'd seen such a lovely version on a mystery blog, that not only did I put the pattern on my to-buy list, ( I got mine <a href="http://www.backstitch.co.uk/named-clothing-paola-turtleneck-tee-paper-sewing-pattern">HERE</a>) but I also immediately ordered the same fabric too. Now, given that this sewist blogger was such an inspiration, I'd love to credit her and say thank you. However, despite (literally) hours and hours trawling the internet, I have failed miserably. So, if you recognise this as the <b>exact</b> same Paola that you made, or you know who did, please get in touch!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Anyway, here it is -<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aU11_CysGqU/WaLOh9VmSpI/AAAAAAAAuNM/1ckudcskuMgkVE1kWqYsvZyyXno_4XpNwCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_2702.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aU11_CysGqU/WaLOh9VmSpI/AAAAAAAAuNM/1ckudcskuMgkVE1kWqYsvZyyXno_4XpNwCLcBGAs/s320/IMG_2702.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The fabric is a <a href="https://www.dragonflyfabrics.co.uk/ponte-roma-jersey/product-3757.php">grey quilted Ponte Roma,</a> £12.50 a metre from Dragonfly fabrics - still currently available.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EquKxnZm3Ag/WaLOnD_mJzI/AAAAAAAAuNk/kUNCOpf1DHEnkAn2l0AglFdB4lz9XhTtQCEwYBhgL/s1600/IMG_2709.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EquKxnZm3Ag/WaLOnD_mJzI/AAAAAAAAuNk/kUNCOpf1DHEnkAn2l0AglFdB4lz9XhTtQCEwYBhgL/s400/IMG_2709.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Checking my measurements against the pattern, it was a toss up between 42 and 44. Taking into account the thickness of the fabric, I decided to go for the larger size. I'm glad I did, it fits just as I wanted, but if I make it again in a finer jersey, I'll think about going down a size. Also, if was an 'under-layer' that I intended to tuck in, I'd probably make it a bit longer too, but that's not the version I wanted this time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
It took no time to cut out - only four pattern pieces - Back, Front, Sleeve and Collar, and not much longer than that to sew up. I made the whole thing on my overlocker, except the sleeve and bottom hems, which I stitched with a wide zigzag.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I have tried it on and I'm delighted with it, and it'll look great under my Cleo dresses, but it is FAR too hot today to bugger about trying to take photos of me wearing it, so here it is on Lola, in my (currently) tidy & organised sewing room.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-v_wGs7E2peA/WaLS7tAgMxI/AAAAAAAAuN0/HyilZYog2BIeidZu-Xokk4rXJsC8D31JACLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_2707.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-v_wGs7E2peA/WaLS7tAgMxI/AAAAAAAAuN0/HyilZYog2BIeidZu-Xokk4rXJsC8D31JACLcBGAs/s400/IMG_2707.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
As the weather seems to have perked up, it may be a while before I get to wear it, but now I have this padded snuggly top with its cosy neck, I should be able to delay putting the central heating on for even longer than usual this year.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

Here's one of my recent makes<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Thr6Ps2m6Jg/WY92JdqKjGI/AAAAAAAAuMo/5jYbwKYr8UQBer5n10KXbXtzf1bwHItGwCLcBGAs/s1600/dressbright.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Thr6Ps2m6Jg/WY92JdqKjGI/AAAAAAAAuMo/5jYbwKYr8UQBer5n10KXbXtzf1bwHItGwCLcBGAs/s400/dressbright.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Photographed on my ancient dress stand as I find it impossible to take photographs of myself in the mirror.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The pattern is from the July 2014 issue of Prima magazine, and my first version is blogged about <a href="http://vintagerockchick-gill.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/the-lincolnshire-poacher.html">here</a>. I've had the fabric quite a while, and it was originally intended to be a pair of <a href="https://sewoverit.co.uk/product/ultimate-trousers-sewing-pattern/">SewOverIt Ultimate Trousers</a>, then it was going to be my third <a href="https://shop.tillyandthebuttons.com/products/cleo">Tilly and The Buttons Cleo dress</a>, but in the end I knew I wanted to use the Prima pattern again, and this fabric was perfect - a woven fabric with a little bit of stretch It was lovely to work with, and very comfortable to wear.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And wear it I did - when I met <a href="http://ginaferrari.blogspot.co.uk/">Gina</a> at the The Orchard Tea Garden in Granchester for afternoon tea. Admittedly it was actually at lunch time, but it was definitely afternoon tea.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Lets take a closer look at that plate ....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sa2q3r5zzSg/WY92Hu3DWWI/AAAAAAAAuMk/rie1G30uSYI6cJM9dyKKMILwSKCv_zGCQCLcBGAs/s1600/gina%2Bbright.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sa2q3r5zzSg/WY92Hu3DWWI/AAAAAAAAuMk/rie1G30uSYI6cJM9dyKKMILwSKCv_zGCQCLcBGAs/s400/gina%2Bbright.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ATRLED0pjE8/WY9tcbNFnnI/AAAAAAAAuMM/drbwcay0rW0dOCYf5D6jCXSt6lZuiwzlACLcBGAs/s1600/cakes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ATRLED0pjE8/WY9tcbNFnnI/AAAAAAAAuMM/drbwcay0rW0dOCYf5D6jCXSt6lZuiwzlACLcBGAs/s400/cakes.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And that was just for ONE! I had my own ...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eaCp83nGanI/WY9tuMCdv-I/AAAAAAAAuMU/RKKmVvvUUvEbOIDbtvTC6W1DFT7Ue06xACLcBGAs/s1600/meandcakes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eaCp83nGanI/WY9tuMCdv-I/AAAAAAAAuMU/RKKmVvvUUvEbOIDbtvTC6W1DFT7Ue06xACLcBGAs/s400/meandcakes.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The Orchard Tea Garden has quite a history, which you can check out <a href="http://www.theorchardteagarden.co.uk/history/">here</a> if you're interested, but suffice it to say they have had lots of famous visitors including Virginia Woolf, Bertrand Russell, Rupert Brook, Charles Darwin, Alan Turing, and HRH Prince Charles. Never let it be said that we slum it! As for the tea, we did both make a valiant effort, but in the end we had to ask for doggie bags. And I didn't eat again for the rest of the day. It was a lovely way to spend a couple of hours, and great to catch up with Gina who I don't see nearly so often since I've moved to Norfolk. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
After we'd struggled to our feet and hauled ourselves out of the tearoom, I thought we should visit the church, even though neither of us was <i>entirely</i> sure if the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grantchester_(TV_series)">TV series Granchester</a> was actually filmed there. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Well, it turns out it was -</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g3JaX5hphpo/WY92Kjp-NZI/AAAAAAAAuMs/xyvrv1LWigQ3529cG-Lr15Y9VFO33ssFACLcBGAs/s1600/church%2Bbright.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g3JaX5hphpo/WY92Kjp-NZI/AAAAAAAAuMs/xyvrv1LWigQ3529cG-Lr15Y9VFO33ssFACLcBGAs/s400/church%2Bbright.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Both the interior and exterior of the Church of St Andrew and St Mary are used for filming, as is the exterior of the village hall but there are also other locations in Cambridge, London and Hertfordshire. Apparently lots of the villagers are used as supporting artists too - that must be fun!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I'm still not sure that vicars are meant to behave (or look) like Sidney tho.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b>Afternoon Tea - The Kinks</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

A little bird told me that the Household Cavalry were in Norfolk and for the next couple of days they may be exercising the horses at <a href="https://www.holkham.co.uk/nature-reserve-beach/the-beach/introduction">Holkham Beach</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It meant getting up early (before 6am) and I was parked up by 7.30 and walked down to the beach. Fortunately the heavy storms of the night before had gone, and it was just breezy with a hint that it might turn into a sunny day.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After about 30 minute's patient anticipation, they appeared through the dunes</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JUPH7SYmfUE/WXBe3WYAE7I/AAAAAAAAuJs/Rf8FXZjcUYwVCGYN0XB-J7Mh9g_bADisACLcBGAs/s1600/hc1s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JUPH7SYmfUE/WXBe3WYAE7I/AAAAAAAAuJs/Rf8FXZjcUYwVCGYN0XB-J7Mh9g_bADisACLcBGAs/s400/hc1s.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
and made their way onto the beach</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PdOl_PZRIoY/WXBe3fZDYGI/AAAAAAAAuJo/F_20MmlTzdkfDq_LP9DINoZ58GdX40kEgCLcBGAs/s1600/hc2s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PdOl_PZRIoY/WXBe3fZDYGI/AAAAAAAAuJo/F_20MmlTzdkfDq_LP9DINoZ58GdX40kEgCLcBGAs/s400/hc2s.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
They lined up for a bit of a photoshoot</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3Eemq3jxQes/WXBfR3bYHtI/AAAAAAAAuJ0/BRk9A7o-lk8b8KTPXUrEeVUMzQLJxZcDgCLcBGAs/s1600/hc3s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3Eemq3jxQes/WXBfR3bYHtI/AAAAAAAAuJ0/BRk9A7o-lk8b8KTPXUrEeVUMzQLJxZcDgCLcBGAs/s400/hc3s.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Although it was clearly a bit too early for some of them</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R-UXKEITpWM/WXBfTF8XtrI/AAAAAAAAuJ4/Z9tQa96HEVkgtZkdcSCCyp6YePCd3NcbQCLcBGAs/s1600/hc4s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R-UXKEITpWM/WXBfTF8XtrI/AAAAAAAAuJ4/Z9tQa96HEVkgtZkdcSCCyp6YePCd3NcbQCLcBGAs/s400/hc4s.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
He definite LOOKS to be asleep</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Then after a quick canter along the water's edge ...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kUDlqMjtmgo/WXBqRAMR_1I/AAAAAAAAuKo/PnuuSaERNNcI803USXpB0m-9sP4C5xSGQCLcBGAs/s1600/canter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="887" data-original-width="1600" height="221" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kUDlqMjtmgo/WXBqRAMR_1I/AAAAAAAAuKo/PnuuSaERNNcI803USXpB0m-9sP4C5xSGQCLcBGAs/s400/canter.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

A fabulous sight, and well worth getting up early (and wet feet!) for. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
And for all those of you who aren't lucky enough to live in Norfolk - watch <a href="http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/videos/news-videos/household-cavalry-norfolk-holkham-beach-2017-video">this video</a>, its truly spectacular.<br />
(There may be a random ad at the start, but the video IS worth it)<br />

I know its been ages - I had every intention of posting regularly for Me-MadeMay but that didn't happen and now its July. (I did manage to wear Me Mades all through May, I just didn't get around to photographing or blogging)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In fact, I was thinking about packing up the blog altogether - I had lost my enthusiasm for blogging, I'm not sure if anyone ever reads it, and I've got more than enough things to occupy my time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But then, this morning, I opened a parcel and it instantly inspired a post, so here I am.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Several months ago, a friend from my (then) local Embroiderers Guild said she had been clearing her loft and was I interested in some old dressmaking patterns. Never one to refuse anything sewing related, I said "Yes please!" and she said she would get them to me via another friend. I think that was about October/November time, but for various reasons, I wasn't able to meet up with the 'courier' friend until this weekend, when she handed over a large package. I didn't get a chance to open it yesterday as I found myself unexpectedly hosting two year old Grace's birthday party, so spent the day shopping, cutting the grass, blowing up balloons, making sandwiches, pouring drinks, and cutting cake. If that wasn't enough Grace, who had been given a beautiful pink pedal car from her Uncle Rob and Auntie Jess, picked me to be 'designated driver' so I ended up pushing her around what felt like half of North Norfolk, ('No, want to go THIS way Gilly!) until I finally convinced her we should turn around and go home, which meant that when everyone had gone all I did was slump in front of Poldark with more cake.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But this morning I was up with the sun, so I opened my parcel and I think I was more excited than Grace when she opened her presents yesterday</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
What a fabulous selection of patterns. I think I must have fallen asleep because I had a dream ........</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
It was a balmy day (no, I do NOT mean barmy) and I was walking along a sun baked Hunstanton beach in my tiny bikini </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P_lWoMOq7B0/WWzfenmTa-I/AAAAAAAAuJM/Yspi0a9uEHAyFDS612UPkcCgWD-Uc4HKQCEwYBhgL/s1600/pat20.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1054" data-original-width="1600" height="262" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P_lWoMOq7B0/WWzfenmTa-I/AAAAAAAAuJM/Yspi0a9uEHAyFDS612UPkcCgWD-Uc4HKQCEwYBhgL/s400/pat20.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
when suddenly from the opposite direction strolled a tall dark handsome gentleman - imagine a blend of George Clooney, Ross Poldark and Noel Fielding with a hint of Jack Sparrow in his younger days.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-36ub14Y_N6w/WWzfdgokSsI/AAAAAAAAuJA/gNE9ia-z1LEw8pC1e4CQMRYoNT8BnSy1gCEwYBhgL/s1600/pat18.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1041" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-36ub14Y_N6w/WWzfdgokSsI/AAAAAAAAuJA/gNE9ia-z1LEw8pC1e4CQMRYoNT8BnSy1gCEwYBhgL/s400/pat18.jpg" width="260" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
We got chatting, and after a while he invited me out to dinner, meaning I could take the opportunity to wear my chic new lurex pants suit -</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1zQkxKAK5-U/WWzfefazdRI/AAAAAAAAuJE/W92FmjWCgkA0VgoWlEr44ICxB6QvzK82gCEwYBhgL/s1600/pat21.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1167" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1zQkxKAK5-U/WWzfefazdRI/AAAAAAAAuJE/W92FmjWCgkA0VgoWlEr44ICxB6QvzK82gCEwYBhgL/s400/pat21.jpg" width="291" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Then it was off to a nightclub to dance the night away ...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0WHwMwXix8Y/WWzfelKvJAI/AAAAAAAAuJI/l-g2F7y0YlUMOZwgFtuQcihRYSEqEol_wCLcBGAs/s1600/pat5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1031" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0WHwMwXix8Y/WWzfelKvJAI/AAAAAAAAuJI/l-g2F7y0YlUMOZwgFtuQcihRYSEqEol_wCLcBGAs/s320/pat5.jpg" width="206" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The next day we met up for lunch, followed by a spot of sightseeing</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bq5ve5VXDLY/WWzffQuej4I/AAAAAAAAuJY/xgqf3bj9jVYJbdnYzMfK7MIFqbd_mewOACEwYBhgL/s1600/pat8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bq5ve5VXDLY/WWzffQuej4I/AAAAAAAAuJY/xgqf3bj9jVYJbdnYzMfK7MIFqbd_mewOACEwYBhgL/s400/pat8.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Anyway, to cut a very long story short, we lived happily ever after.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Zuk0LHPLN6I/WWzffugfYbI/AAAAAAAAuJc/UScaPdyxXC07Iv9pSCK9ilqlcBIWtqwNACEwYBhgL/s1600/pat9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1179" data-original-width="1600" height="293" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Zuk0LHPLN6I/WWzffugfYbI/AAAAAAAAuJc/UScaPdyxXC07Iv9pSCK9ilqlcBIWtqwNACEwYBhgL/s400/pat9.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Anyway, back to the real world - there some really lovely patterns which I will definitely use (maybe NOT the bikini or the wedding gown though)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This is my very favourite - I love the neckline and the raglan sleeves and I think it would look good in a heavy jersey or maybe neoprene</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0nmYXy1og_8/WWzfb9LWKhI/AAAAAAAAuIc/vT7rFoXes6EIJHv-ixuOQg6Ogk5z9m-mwCEwYBhgL/s1600/pat11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0nmYXy1og_8/WWzfb9LWKhI/AAAAAAAAuIc/vT7rFoXes6EIJHv-ixuOQg6Ogk5z9m-mwCEwYBhgL/s400/pat11.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I think I <i>may</i> have to adjust the length of this next one - or just wear it as a tunic -</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FSbOd1bVjBw/WWzffA-9EkI/AAAAAAAAuJQ/fVePonP4MA0JRQrU7DME5LMyD7aLHzMMgCLcBGAs/s1600/pat7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1134" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FSbOd1bVjBw/WWzffA-9EkI/AAAAAAAAuJQ/fVePonP4MA0JRQrU7DME5LMyD7aLHzMMgCLcBGAs/s400/pat7.jpg" width="282" /></a></div>
I've been looking for a pattern like this, but hadn't found one that was <i>just</i> right until now ...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K2vykZdLTe4/WWzfcLXRQkI/AAAAAAAAuIg/9P1vXBZBgXs3Rgvb25lG_62HLHhMzv1IQCLcBGAs/s1600/pat10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K2vykZdLTe4/WWzfcLXRQkI/AAAAAAAAuIg/9P1vXBZBgXs3Rgvb25lG_62HLHhMzv1IQCLcBGAs/s400/pat10.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
I'd definitely like to give these next ones a try<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Jz395JtSkNA/WWzffatNs5I/AAAAAAAAuJU/J_MVGbZTVjkvvwt7e1YkffAJlXlw8aJtgCEwYBhgL/s1600/pat6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Jz395JtSkNA/WWzffatNs5I/AAAAAAAAuJU/J_MVGbZTVjkvvwt7e1YkffAJlXlw8aJtgCEwYBhgL/s400/pat6.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r5-dRllsreI/WWzfcPrTdBI/AAAAAAAAuIk/wYIUXwtw_SgwA3EePY33WwRHe4iMsFzhACLcBGAs/s1600/pat12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1083" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r5-dRllsreI/WWzfcPrTdBI/AAAAAAAAuIk/wYIUXwtw_SgwA3EePY33WwRHe4iMsFzhACLcBGAs/s400/pat12.jpg" width="270" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Val has added a note to this - that the neckline needs to be taking in before cutting it out, so I'll bear that in mind and I may decide to give the feather boa trim a miss too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-B2NUDemXwlc/WWzfcvs_tcI/AAAAAAAAuIo/LiomuGvxXT8rsPJ-01VZpqylqlVfVQJgwCEwYBhgL/s1600/pat13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-B2NUDemXwlc/WWzfcvs_tcI/AAAAAAAAuIo/LiomuGvxXT8rsPJ-01VZpqylqlVfVQJgwCEwYBhgL/s320/pat13.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="text-align: justify;">and I love this, just because it reminds me of one of the first garments I ever made in needlework classes at school - a bright orange polo neck blouse with set in sleeves and a zip at the back. They say you should never go back ....</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IkUlceLojhs/WWzfcweYBJI/AAAAAAAAuIs/-dDUWULRmYstSP4qog-Ed2iMMTCP9qKTACLcBGAs/s1600/pat15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IkUlceLojhs/WWzfcweYBJI/AAAAAAAAuIs/-dDUWULRmYstSP4qog-Ed2iMMTCP9qKTACLcBGAs/s400/pat15.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
Several shirtwaist dresses which are, as they say, very much 'on trend'<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2RCmKk7ULPA/WWzfdOxJhPI/AAAAAAAAuI0/qOxYCzwgVdksiOoPTnG_knPVKWvGykZAQCLcBGAs/s1600/pat16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1091" data-original-width="1600" height="272" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2RCmKk7ULPA/WWzfdOxJhPI/AAAAAAAAuI0/qOxYCzwgVdksiOoPTnG_knPVKWvGykZAQCLcBGAs/s400/pat16.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-La3QXAKHjQg/WWzfdTwQ28I/AAAAAAAAuI4/uSIM-WpivL0BuKlpd8pBA9ndZKmHKZO1ACLcBGAs/s1600/pat17.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-La3QXAKHjQg/WWzfdTwQ28I/AAAAAAAAuI4/uSIM-WpivL0BuKlpd8pBA9ndZKmHKZO1ACLcBGAs/s400/pat17.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
And finally, because I realised that I don't possess a dressng gown ...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MZSRktL0k74/WWzfdrWumgI/AAAAAAAAuI8/uYwY4_XteI4-iNKThMT3FEpTvx5JA2KfACLcBGAs/s1600/pat19.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1008" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MZSRktL0k74/WWzfdrWumgI/AAAAAAAAuI8/uYwY4_XteI4-iNKThMT3FEpTvx5JA2KfACLcBGAs/s320/pat19.jpg" width="201" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
now you can see why I was so delighted - not just vintage paterns, but beautiful, wearable vintage patterns. Not all in my size but some I like so much I may even have to learn how to pattern grade.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It just goes to show, when you are next having a declutter, don't throw anything out until you check whether anyone else wants your treasure.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, on the off chance that anyone is looking to get rid of a Clooney/Poldark/Fielding lookalike, you know where I am.</div>

<b>Patterns - Band of Skulls</b>vintagerockchickhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11771490446494303513noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3921790005752048713.post-70944442243925170012017-05-01T15:18:00.000+01:002017-05-01T15:35:38.436+01:00Mayday<div style="text-align: justify;">
Oh dear, so much for posting at least once a month. May 1st and I've not even signed up to up to MeMadeMay 2017 yet. <br />
<br />
<i>(I have now..... I, Gill of http://vintagerockchick-gill.blogspot.co.uk, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May '17. I will wear at least one MeMade item each day for the duration of May 2017 and I will attempt to post photos on my blog as and when I can find a willing photographer!</i><br />
<br />
In an attempt to be more organised (some hope) I've sorted my wardrobe this morning so that the Me Mades are arranged together. I would say that at least half of my tops and knitteds are made by me, more than half of my dresses and almost half of my skirts - so I should manage to wear at least one least one MeMade every day.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The real benefit of MMM for me is that I get to properly look at my wardrobe and think about what I'm wearing, as opposed to wearing the same familiar things. I'd forgotten all about this cardigan - although I don't know how, its not exactly a colour that hides itself away.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RhUCAyEIvM4/WQc-4n_z30I/AAAAAAAAuAY/og4XWvVxkdU5uxwTVWhVaHdOa485ylHrQCLcB/s1600/gill%2526grace1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RhUCAyEIvM4/WQc-4n_z30I/AAAAAAAAuAY/og4XWvVxkdU5uxwTVWhVaHdOa485ylHrQCLcB/s400/gill%2526grace1.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My neon pink Ramona Cardigan, over a pink and white stripe TATB Agnes top, together with a scarf I made from Nano Iro fabric with purple mini pompom trim. I'm also wearing MeMade pink/red/orange socks, but you'll just have to take my word for that. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Had a lovely morning a Sandringham with only a couple of tantrums (Grace, not me) and some practice for Grace's 'nastics' class. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Grace has all the determination, attitude and personality of <a href="http://olgakorbut.com/">Olga Korbut</a>, its just her balance and technical ability that needs work. </div>

(Incidentally, I realise that's a very out-of-date reference - Olga Korbut is now 61 - who'd have thought it.</div>

I thought I'd share my most recent make - a denim dungaree dress, courtesy of the <a href="https://shop.tillyandthebuttons.com/products/cleo">Tilly and the Buttons Cleo pattern</a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lkGhPjN5FQQ/WLsPhDPyiII/AAAAAAAAt90/-ABUeekdq_wwwkHcd_Z4IOjyibJMF_o7ACLcB/s1600/Cleo-dungaree-dress-sewing-pattern-Cover_medium.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lkGhPjN5FQQ/WLsPhDPyiII/AAAAAAAAt90/-ABUeekdq_wwwkHcd_Z4IOjyibJMF_o7ACLcB/s320/Cleo-dungaree-dress-sewing-pattern-Cover_medium.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've fancied one of these dungaree dresses for ages, and so I was delighted to see the Cleo pattern. I know it's not particularly 'age-appropriate' but since when did that ever stop me? I'd already got some medium weight denim in my stash, so I washed it and was ready to go.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Tilly's patterns are always easy to follow, with the bonus of an online tutorial if you need it and this went together really quickly.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This was partly due to the fact that I am now lucky enough to have the benefit of a big sewing room, and several machines, so I was able to have one machine set up for normal sewing, and one for top stitching, which meant I didn't have to keep swapping needles and threads.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-roOYPRxZcq4/WLsOab57QII/AAAAAAAAt9o/kH7I-ijapJQgs2I7pBmeruljTqIDtFi3ACLcB/s1600/IMG_2155.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-roOYPRxZcq4/WLsOab57QII/AAAAAAAAt9o/kH7I-ijapJQgs2I7pBmeruljTqIDtFi3ACLcB/s320/IMG_2155.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
At first I thought I'd use buttonholes and buttons, but I happened to be in a fabric shop (however did <i>that </i>happen?) and saw some dungaree clips, so I went for those instead.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I made the knee length version in a Size 5 - and I didn't make any alterations to the pattern at all.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have to say, I am really ridiculously pleased with it - and I've worn it three times already. There will definitely be more Cleos - maybe in a patterned corduroy?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Excuse the creases - I'd been wearing it for an hour or so before I remembered to get my niece to take photos. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kU88ZPapbfg/WLsOW5wIOTI/AAAAAAAAt9k/CIHqD2pv4tc72nwYeyrMlaS8opUHZ8LnwCEw/s1600/IMG_2158.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kU88ZPapbfg/WLsOW5wIOTI/AAAAAAAAt9k/CIHqD2pv4tc72nwYeyrMlaS8opUHZ8LnwCEw/s400/IMG_2158.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She was under strict instructions to make me look about 28 and a Size 10. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She failed miserably.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Oh, and the post title relates to where I went last weekend - I met up with some friends at <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/anglesey-abbey-gardens-and-lode-mill">Anglesey Abbey</a> to see the snowdrops. I've not been there before but what a fantastic winter garden - so many colours and textures and delightful scents - and the silver birches look like a magical film set.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Possibly inspired by <a href="http://ginaferrari.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/and-breathe.html">Gina's 'year of new experiences</a>' I spent the 14th Feb doing something I've never done before.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Don't get too excited - it involved buckets of cold water and mackerel guts - yes, I've been crabbing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My friend Fiona and her family were in Norfolk for a couple of days, and I <strike>musseled</strike> muscled in on their break and joined them on the quayside at Wells.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We tried on Monday, but that first attempt was less than successful. It was as bitterly cold as a very cold <strike>plaice</strike> place, not helped by the fact that in my rush to get out that morning, I had inadvertently forgotten to take my coat. Plus the tide was out, so, other that a few little shrimps, it was pretty much a non starter.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We ended up going to Hunstanton and feeding money into the 2p machines, where for about a tenner, we managed to win a couple of plastic keyrings. Bargain!</div>
<br />
Anyway, not to be defeated, we went back early yesterday morning and to help with the process, I donned my lucky 'crabbing hat'<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kL2bJwP49vc/WKSGRNlbFsI/AAAAAAAAt7U/vbFGO7iZ0icg3mgRqVOAHIV6RylyR66vQCLcB/s1600/cropped%2Bhat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="276" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kL2bJwP49vc/WKSGRNlbFsI/AAAAAAAAt7U/vbFGO7iZ0icg3mgRqVOAHIV6RylyR66vQCLcB/s400/cropped%2Bhat.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Anyway, whether it was the tide, or the hat, or the sunshine, or the fact that crabs hadn't already had their breakfast, it were much more successful trip and the boys were catching them at a rate of knots</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uBDdsfgjvDk/WKSDHuJh3iI/AAAAAAAAt68/SpwGx38PzM4wy9VyhsYVQcG6Te529GxewCLcB/s1600/crabbing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uBDdsfgjvDk/WKSDHuJh3iI/AAAAAAAAt68/SpwGx38PzM4wy9VyhsYVQcG6Te529GxewCLcB/s400/crabbing.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
So successful, in fact, that we had to go and invest in a bigger bucket ...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N0ixnw_32bU/WKSDGgll_2I/AAAAAAAAt64/LxBZyHcOrak75fCGrdUl2VSJOfvaE060gCLcB/s1600/crab.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N0ixnw_32bU/WKSDGgll_2I/AAAAAAAAt64/LxBZyHcOrak75fCGrdUl2VSJOfvaE060gCLcB/s400/crab.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
(I know there are only two in this bucket, but the water was a bit murky in the others.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
So, just one question - do you think my stylish dress sense has anything to do with my lack of valentine's post this year?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I've just had my first 'staying' visitor in my new house! It was <i>slightly </i>daunting as it was my friend <a href="http://ginaferrari.blogspot.co.uk/">Gina</a> who is an ace cook and baker, and as you know, my culinary skills are somewhat limited. Plus, she is currently following a healthy eating regime which meant I couldn't just take her out and make sure she filled up on cake. I suggested I find some healthy recipes, and buy the ingredients and she could supervise the cooking. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Before we did any cooking though, I thought we'd go for a long walk, on the basis that she might be so hungry that she'd eat anything.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The weather was better than predicted, so we went to Wells for a walk along the beach. It was very bright and sunny, but just a tad windy!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GQtPgyew7Oo/WHfLUQqlcHI/AAAAAAAAtw8/pPlrsWXjt00ba0WJWLEm_VXtOifIJODMQCLcB/s1600/wells.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="221" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GQtPgyew7Oo/WHfLUQqlcHI/AAAAAAAAtw8/pPlrsWXjt00ba0WJWLEm_VXtOifIJODMQCLcB/s400/wells.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
But, if you're wrapped up warm ....</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rgiC5JN8TdI/WHfLRc_NH3I/AAAAAAAAtw0/7I39Tlw0bdc6PMGv9NJX1W31q2PcCy8tACLcB/s1600/gina%2Bat%2Bwells.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="301" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rgiC5JN8TdI/WHfLRc_NH3I/AAAAAAAAtw0/7I39Tlw0bdc6PMGv9NJX1W31q2PcCy8tACLcB/s400/gina%2Bat%2Bwells.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Anyway, the cooking lark worked - under Gina's expert guidance, I made fishcakes with stir fried spring greens and broccoli, (get that! me eating green veg!?!?!?) served with a curry mayonnaise sauce, which made the broccoli slightly more palatable.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wZ5mx4bBH8o/WHiCEicVLvI/AAAAAAAAtxk/7zs1aCHDHNA9QI1mrjZHdCgozHo_qSWsACLcB/s1600/gina%2Band%2Bfishcakes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wZ5mx4bBH8o/WHiCEicVLvI/AAAAAAAAtxk/7zs1aCHDHNA9QI1mrjZHdCgozHo_qSWsACLcB/s400/gina%2Band%2Bfishcakes.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I even made soda bread ....</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x1KLDV8tf3Y/WHfOmd-ZvuI/AAAAAAAAtxI/rFRNIH9MRYoBLUQX4rKbBa6ZBwTTzhWSgCLcB/s1600/bread.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x1KLDV8tf3Y/WHfOmd-ZvuI/AAAAAAAAtxI/rFRNIH9MRYoBLUQX4rKbBa6ZBwTTzhWSgCLcB/s400/bread.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Don't worry - this IS NOT turning into a cooking blog. No doubt by the end of the week, normal service will have resumed and I'll have given up the veg and gone back to Maltesers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
As I've had such a long blogging break, I thought I'd catch up with some of my makes. This is a dress I made for Grace as part of her Christmas present, although she didn't actually get it until a week later. It's a little on the big side, but that's fine, and she seems to grow so quickly it'll soon be perfect.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
It's and <a href="http://www.eclecticmaker.co.uk/oliver-s-playtime-dress-tunic-and-leggings-sewing-pattern.html">Oliver and S Playtime Dress</a> that I bought as a PDF - I'm usually reluctant to use PDF patterns because of all the cutting and sticking - but with kids clothes its not so bad, and this was really easy to put together. I'm afraid I can't remember where I got the cherry print jersey from, I'd had it for a while and I had thought it was destined for an Agnes top for me, but I am determined to try and use up some of my fabric mountain so it became a little dress. It feels really good quality, very soft and drapey, but with a nice weight.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-51Rax2GfOQg/WHfLPT_DxfI/AAAAAAAAtws/folciEotamIFiOoohCnuNuc_wB7rasqpgCLcB/s1600/cherry%2Bdress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="308" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-51Rax2GfOQg/WHfLPT_DxfI/AAAAAAAAtws/folciEotamIFiOoohCnuNuc_wB7rasqpgCLcB/s400/cherry%2Bdress.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The dress was quick to make and the only reason it wasn't ready for Christmas is I run out of time, and because I faffed about for ages finding the prefect buttons for the back, again from my enormous supply. I loved these heart buttons, but only had two of each size, so I used three different sizes, and made it easier for myself and for Grace's mum by using poppers to fasten it, rather than making three different sized buttonholes.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hayley and Bethany got new dresses too - AND in time for Christmas, but I forgot to photograph those, so I'll have to organise a little baby photoshoot later when they are all together in their frocks.</div>

I bet you thought I'd gone for good? I was beginning to wonder the same myself. But, I though I'd make my NY resolution to post on here at least once a month. Make it achievable, I say.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I <b>have</b> been busy doing other things - sewing frocks, knitting socks, and just generally pottering.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Oh, and moving house - I've unexpectedly moved to Norfolk! If you'd have asked me this time last year, I wouldn't have had an inkling - I was happy in my little flat in Hertford and thought I'd be there for ever. But then a seed was planted in my tiny brain, where it grew - and after a few months house-hunting, and waiting, and finally a pretty stress-free move in September, here I am, and I couldn't be happier. I love my village, and I love my house (you get a lot for your money up here) and I love the fact that my family are all nearby. Christmas was great - I'm haven't usually been at home for Christmas, so I haven't bothered with decorations, but this year I had a tree and lots of fairy lights and other bits and pieces. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I even cooked my first Christmas dinner for about 20years - who'd have thought it!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm also a great aunt x 3 now - you may remember Grace - she's a big girl now, does drawing and everything......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-63Tba7is0lY/WGv5TlJT1FI/AAAAAAAAtu0/hA3ZtwBubkItDXRf3XGOU06wbwsdgb-_gCLcB/s1600/IMG_8503.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-63Tba7is0lY/WGv5TlJT1FI/AAAAAAAAtu0/hA3ZtwBubkItDXRf3XGOU06wbwsdgb-_gCLcB/s400/IMG_8503.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In September, she was joined by her gorgeous cousin Hayley, and then in September she got a beautiful baby sister, Bethany</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
They all had Christmas outfits - </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
BETHANY</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
with her very proud Mum</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I feel so lucky to be up here now so I can be a bigger part of their lives than just an occasional visitor.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I will be posting about the various things I've stitched and knitted while I've been away, but for now, flushed with the success of my festive dinner, I thought I'd share my recipe for the delicious soup I made this evening.......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Heat a glug or two of olive oil in a big pan. Leave over the heat for several mins whilst looking through my cupboards for stock cubes and seasonings. When smoke alarm starts sounding, stop looking for stock cubes and turn off the heat, and remove the pan. Add the ready chopped onions, ignoring the fact that most of them immediately turn black, it'll probably add to the flavour.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Meanwhile, attempt to stop the smoke alarm by flapping a tea towel underneath it. When this doesn't work, go away and find some steps to reach the re-set button - press repeatedly until silence reigns,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Make your way through the steam filled kitchen, and put the pan back on the heat, adding chopped parsnips, carrots and red pepper. Add a pint or two of vegetable stock - I used an OXO cube, but you could always make your own, if you don't <u>have</u> a life. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Discover some forgotten dried crushed chillies in the cupboard and add a good shake to the pan. I'm not sure of the exact quantity, but I suggest you use a LOT less than I did.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Stand by the cooker, watching and stirring to ensure that there are no more smoke alarm alerts (it's VERY loud, and there wasn'treally going to be enough soup to feed the entire crew of a fire tender).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Test the veg and decide they need another five minutes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Pop upstairs to my sewing room, and get engrossed in sorting things. Half an hour later, come back down and find that there is no longer any liquid left, and that the vegetables seem to have welded themselves to the bottom of the pan. Add some more water from the kettle, and scape the bulk of the veg from the pan bottom. Whizz it up with a whizzer and serve.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Actually, it was surprisingly tasty, albeit quite (spicey) hot. I can't tell you how many calories it contained, but you don't need to worry, you'll easily burn those off scrubbing the pan with a scourer for half an hour.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Don't say I never give you anythng.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

The last couple of weeks has seen an uncharacteristic period of selfless sewing and knitting. Firstly, I was going up to Birmingham to celebrate my friend Sherri's birthday. I wasn't sure what to get her, then I remembered she has a love of all things 'seaside' (maybe because she lives just about as far away from the sea as you can get on this little island?). So, I decided to make another version of the bag I made with <a href="https://www.facebook.com/TheSewingRoom.Hertford/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums">Jane</a> which you can see a picture of <a href="http://vintagerockchick-gill.blogspot.co.uk/2016/05/mmm-2016-day-5.html">HERE</a>. I found the perfect fabric - a canvas weight with seaside images </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jsLXuSQEfpk/V2p5PCTL62I/AAAAAAAAtOw/DrbFaE8Eym43MPFVbTcsUP0vRoACtLE5ACLcB/s1600/IMG_1365.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jsLXuSQEfpk/V2p5PCTL62I/AAAAAAAAtOw/DrbFaE8Eym43MPFVbTcsUP0vRoACtLE5ACLcB/s400/IMG_1365.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I also found seaside-related pressies to go in the bag too. No, not a bucket an spade - although I considered it - but a slightly more sophisticated choice of a scented candle and some caramel and seasalt choccies. <br />
We had a great celebration party, organised by her lovely nephew Adam,<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sFJCYEheHEU/V2qC2wx_CEI/AAAAAAAAtQE/7Jomw4Kn4EkJNFHB-OpulZ22PuYuPRvSwCLcB/s1600/IMG_1370.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sFJCYEheHEU/V2qC2wx_CEI/AAAAAAAAtQE/7Jomw4Kn4EkJNFHB-OpulZ22PuYuPRvSwCLcB/s400/IMG_1370.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
who, incidentally, I knew when he looked like this .. ..... (and that's me - with short hair!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sVV8l3Tf384/V2qCmeI2GuI/AAAAAAAAtP8/z7fVGXpdwYoyHyWzfw7A3QSF-hdxTMtrgCLcB/s1600/28.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="317" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sVV8l3Tf384/V2qCmeI2GuI/AAAAAAAAtP8/z7fVGXpdwYoyHyWzfw7A3QSF-hdxTMtrgCLcB/s400/28.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KuTXbIqNw8w/V2p5PfVzb5I/AAAAAAAAtO0/9b33ZpjwKcgXyS8LKI_0F-4HRIKalAmnQCLcB/s1600/IMG_1372.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KuTXbIqNw8w/V2p5PfVzb5I/AAAAAAAAtO0/9b33ZpjwKcgXyS8LKI_0F-4HRIKalAmnQCLcB/s400/IMG_1372.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I admit though, that the celebrations couldn't commence until after I had dragged Sherri to another fabric emporium - well, she only lives a few miles away from <a href="https://guthrie-ghani.co.uk/shop">Guthrie & Ghani</a>, so it would have been rude not to! I got some lovely fabric, including this brilliant typewriter fabric. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5Hy735h3IG8/V2p5ULRWA3I/AAAAAAAAtPM/StjTisTddK0-LHvTCo8yg8jxnftyjMDuACLcB/s1600/IMG_1390.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5Hy735h3IG8/V2p5ULRWA3I/AAAAAAAAtPM/StjTisTddK0-LHvTCo8yg8jxnftyjMDuACLcB/s400/IMG_1390.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
True, I already have ONE typewriter dress, but you can always use another one.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Anyway, back to the selfless stitches, last week I suddenly remembered that I had sent in an application to enter an exhibit in the <a href="http://www.embroiderersguildeast.org.uk/exhibitions/regional-day-2nd-july-2016-hertfordshire/">Eastern Region Embroiderer's Guild Festival of Stitch</a> and owing to other events, if I didn't do it last week, it wouldn't get done. So I did it! Can't show you the finished piece yet, but its listed as a 'tattoo cushion' and includes this</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8YV6H2f2_j8/V2p5PxO64aI/AAAAAAAAtO4/YYxpmivEPDMRwcoMUio9GYF_yyzI3jC4ACLcB/s1600/IMG_1377.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8YV6H2f2_j8/V2p5PxO64aI/AAAAAAAAtO4/YYxpmivEPDMRwcoMUio9GYF_yyzI3jC4ACLcB/s400/IMG_1377.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I've also done a bit of selfless-knitting, for the worldwide Knit in Public Day event at the <a href="http://thecreativesanctuary.co.uk/">Creative Sanctuary</a> in Hertford, making squares to be made into a blanket which will be auctioned for <a href="https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/">Alzheimers Society</a>. I did finished one square on the day</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-La3kkOvP9Fs/V2p5S9VtvRI/AAAAAAAAtPE/QtvKV3hrMTYJ2LygQ5Xe6vhNsSzI5P4QwCLcB/s1600/IMG_1381.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-La3kkOvP9Fs/V2p5S9VtvRI/AAAAAAAAtPE/QtvKV3hrMTYJ2LygQ5Xe6vhNsSzI5P4QwCLcB/s400/IMG_1381.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
and I've made several more since (I even got my Mum to do a bit of knitting - first time for years)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I continued with the Knitting in Public theme and knitted on the train going up to Stratford to help out with the second batch of alterations of the Paralympic kit - Kym and I were joined by Jane too this time - the building we were working in isn't finished yet so we still had to wear the protective gear</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LdcrvFChh5g/V2p6Yd3e8RI/AAAAAAAAtPk/KXEFr3YYVZsWXosNQtMO8aBZGivV8h6lgCLcB/s1600/IMG_1694.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LdcrvFChh5g/V2p6Yd3e8RI/AAAAAAAAtPk/KXEFr3YYVZsWXosNQtMO8aBZGivV8h6lgCLcB/s400/IMG_1694.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
We worked hard, for two days, in a huge warehouse with no windows - Jane said she felt like an extra from the Hunger Games, and when an alarm sounded we thought maybe the building had been infiltrated by aliens - but still we stitched ...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
We did get out safely though, and the world was still there - and so was the best helter skelter ever -</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rE_TN4bGHOQ/V2p5TZ3uv_I/AAAAAAAAtPI/qE3AeWDx3KYy50aH5p8Q3xXDCXGRVo1bgCLcB/s1600/IMG_1387.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rE_TN4bGHOQ/V2p5TZ3uv_I/AAAAAAAAtPI/qE3AeWDx3KYy50aH5p8Q3xXDCXGRVo1bgCLcB/s400/IMG_1387.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Bit more selfless sewing to go, then, no doubt, I'll revert to type and it'll all be about me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />vintagerockchickhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11771490446494303513noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3921790005752048713.post-86177324071826586882016-06-01T17:16:00.000+01:002016-06-01T17:16:11.850+01:00Olympic Stitching<div style="text-align: justify;">
A few months ago Kym and I were working together at the <a href="http://thecreativesanctuary.co.uk/">Creative Sanctuary</a> in Hertford, when a lady came in and asked if we knew anyone who might like to volunteer to alter kit for Paralympians, due to compete at Rio 2016. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now, as a rule, Kym and I both run a mile - albeit not quickly enough to qualify for Rio ourselves - when anyone mentions the word 'alterations'. Not only that, but by her own admission, Kym avoids sewing anything stretchy or slippy, so I was quite surprised to hear myself say "Oh yes, we'll do it!"</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Consequently today saw us getting the early train to Stratford and wandering through the Westfield Shopping Centre (the shops were closed or it might have taken considerably longer) and over to a warehouse where the kit was being sorted. The warehouse was still under construction, which meant that before we entered the building we had to be given Hi-Vis vests, steel toe capped boots, hard hats and goggles. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zMQhZ0L6vtY/V08FaVXpRXI/AAAAAAAAtN8/iDZ02Ezvb4QOBudOzsAZ_VVOikvVeuXLQCLcB/s1600/IMG_1334.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zMQhZ0L6vtY/V08FaVXpRXI/AAAAAAAAtN8/iDZ02Ezvb4QOBudOzsAZ_VVOikvVeuXLQCLcB/s400/IMG_1334.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I'm glad to say we didn't have to keep the Health and Safety gear on all the time we were sewing, only whilst making our way through the building</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a9iy-E91b58/V08FaMm9HwI/AAAAAAAAtN4/4OLGsuwOrFE7FIfFGnAcT6ycvyf1TlkfgCLcB/s1600/IMG_1336.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a9iy-E91b58/V08FaMm9HwI/AAAAAAAAtN4/4OLGsuwOrFE7FIfFGnAcT6ycvyf1TlkfgCLcB/s400/IMG_1336.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
We haven't by any means done all the kit - only a small proportion of the competitors have been selected so far, so we will be going back to do more in a few weeks time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I'm wondering - does this mean we can say we've worked on Stella McCartney's latest collection?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o9UfRs2WqqI/V08JZ1p_szI/AAAAAAAAtOI/qHPM3hCFtncGjBN4HdxKtbaVtiKhf8inwCLcB/s1600/adidas-team-gb-kit-stella-mccartney-rio-olympics_dezeen_1568_ban2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o9UfRs2WqqI/V08JZ1p_szI/AAAAAAAAtOI/qHPM3hCFtncGjBN4HdxKtbaVtiKhf8inwCLcB/s400/adidas-team-gb-kit-stella-mccartney-rio-olympics_dezeen_1568_ban2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Anyway, having finished all the measuring and pinning, stitching and cutting that could be done today, we had to put the same protective gear back on to make our way out again to go home.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WeakNi480uo/V08FaNuU1iI/AAAAAAAAtN0/NlXDBDsG-RYCGHdjmK0fWsQSbn32WCCLQCLcB/s1600/IMG_1343.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WeakNi480uo/V08FaNuU1iI/AAAAAAAAtN0/NlXDBDsG-RYCGHdjmK0fWsQSbn32WCCLQCLcB/s400/IMG_1343.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Mmm, I don't think Stella McCartney designed THIS. But it's a look that could catch on.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

So much for daily posting then.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I spent most of Thursday (26th) working in the garden in a very old T shirt, but when I came in and got showered I did change into <a href="http://vintagerockchick-gill.blogspot.co.uk/2016/05/mmm-2016-day-8.html">this</a> Camber top for a couple of hours sewing, finishing off my new Navy and White striped Coco tunic, just in time to wear it the next day when I drove back up to Sunny Norfolk again. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Grace looks cute but the photos don't show much of the dress</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cUKVwJfhcn4/V03UP80kifI/AAAAAAAAtNQ/MNTUOJ--ZEcY38mYTpM_RZMRc3lUIY7IQCKgB/s1600/image2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cUKVwJfhcn4/V03UP80kifI/AAAAAAAAtNQ/MNTUOJ--ZEcY38mYTpM_RZMRc3lUIY7IQCKgB/s400/image2.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YoEFDw10JAg/V03UQkRxxqI/AAAAAAAAtNY/oYLgxZ9sqdEiKNmuwvLzVX6wmo0V0J08wCKgB/s1600/image4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YoEFDw10JAg/V03UQkRxxqI/AAAAAAAAtNY/oYLgxZ9sqdEiKNmuwvLzVX6wmo0V0J08wCKgB/s400/image4.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
so I cheated over the weekend and put it on to take another shot in the garden</div>

<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cjEnbAydbss/V03UOAXs5OI/AAAAAAAAtNA/Yk40RasDRLUgCkPZJmd2w5FX3EA2EmfFwCKgB/s1600/IMG_1304.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cjEnbAydbss/V03UOAXs5OI/AAAAAAAAtNA/Yk40RasDRLUgCkPZJmd2w5FX3EA2EmfFwCKgB/s400/IMG_1304.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Saturday was a visit to a garden nursery, followed by more planting in Mum and Dad's garden, wearing the B&W Coco top</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kmXKhzChv5E/V03UNJPFavI/AAAAAAAAtM4/8yMOvsZySb0ON0DyG9B_oCQ2KoHMqRMfQCKgB/s1600/IMG_1308.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kmXKhzChv5E/V03UNJPFavI/AAAAAAAAtM4/8yMOvsZySb0ON0DyG9B_oCQ2KoHMqRMfQCKgB/s400/IMG_1308.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Sunday - a bit more plant buying and gardening in an old T shirt and my me-made Rowan denim cardigan - no photo but you've seen it countless times, and on Monday I drove home in a super loud scuba Maker's Atelier Shell top.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dipz9gQm4u0/V03UOGTWSNI/AAAAAAAAtM8/3Bx5lP9eqKEdZUg_gg--hWiwf5TbUGtYACKgB/s1600/IMG_1321.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dipz9gQm4u0/V03UOGTWSNI/AAAAAAAAtM8/3Bx5lP9eqKEdZUg_gg--hWiwf5TbUGtYACKgB/s400/IMG_1321.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And finally, Day 31 - a me-made <a href="http://shop.grainlinestudio.com/products/linden-sweatshirt">Grainline Linden sweatshirt</a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xCet8cXtyAg/V03UOyKSlHI/AAAAAAAAtNE/E80sW3NLlO4E4T6gMlW2Oik10jEGJ9oyACKgB/s1600/IMG_1331.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xCet8cXtyAg/V03UOyKSlHI/AAAAAAAAtNE/E80sW3NLlO4E4T6gMlW2Oik10jEGJ9oyACKgB/s400/IMG_1331.jpg" width="318" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
in a grey marl sweatshirting from Backstitch, still available <a href="http://www.backstitch.co.uk/sweatshirt-fleece-grey-marl">HERE</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
My Dad refused to believe I'd made this, saying it look like 'shop-bought', which I think was meant to be a compliment.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-huTb2IqTyds/V03UPyQHjqI/AAAAAAAAtNM/q56Ih9ybABcV-D36RQShmyCKi6O7Y_DEgCKgB/s1600/IMG_1332.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-huTb2IqTyds/V03UPyQHjqI/AAAAAAAAtNM/q56Ih9ybABcV-D36RQShmyCKi6O7Y_DEgCKgB/s400/IMG_1332.jpg" width="330" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I had to show him where I'd stitched a little bit of Liberty fabric into the neck to convince him</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0xYoiwbvzNw/V03UREu678I/AAAAAAAAtNc/63SlxVXTSoQf9TCL975EYxXCtFysggOvQCKgB/s1600/IMG_1333.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0xYoiwbvzNw/V03UREu678I/AAAAAAAAtNc/63SlxVXTSoQf9TCL975EYxXCtFysggOvQCKgB/s400/IMG_1333.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Yes, I know you could buy a plain grey marl sweatshirt anywhere, but why would I? And the reason I chose plain grey was that it felt lovely and was a great price, and I wanted to try the pattern out before I went mad and bought the Liberty print sweatshirting <a href="http://www.backstitch.co.uk/black-cotton-sweatshirt-fleece-liberty-art-fabrics">HERE</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Oh, and I also wore Me-Made socks, being as how it feels like November again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
So that's it, another Me Made May done and dusted. A few repeats, but not too many, and its getting easier every year, as more and more of my wardrobe is handmade. I went a whole year (2015) without buying any new clothes, and I've only bought a couple of bits this year, and frankly, I no longer get the buzz from clothes shopping that I used to. Put me in a fabric shop, and that's a whole different story though. In an ideal world I would make all of my own clothes - coats, jackets, jeans, underwear - but that's probably optimistic and a long way off. Plus, I've got more than enough of the aforementioned to last me a while so there's little point in making things I don't need. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I've made lots of fancy frocks, and stuff that screams "I made this!" - but now I intersperse those with more sensible makes. My last me-made garment - the plain grey sweatshirt - is probably significant. A really wearable garment that I can throw on over a pair of jeans for everyday, and not be too precious about.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Now if I can just pluck up the courage to make those jeans.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Anyway, tomorrow I'm off for a bit of Olympic sewing ........ </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ooops - I took a photo yesterday but then forgot to post it. Anyway, I wore a blue and white polka dot Colette Laurel made ages ago, shortened twice into a tunic. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9BzKjY-jyKE/V0YdNudDAeI/AAAAAAAAtLE/7O3wrGPGFzcCt3CzXaFXovWcmX4wupU2wCLcB/s1600/IMG_1295.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9BzKjY-jyKE/V0YdNudDAeI/AAAAAAAAtLE/7O3wrGPGFzcCt3CzXaFXovWcmX4wupU2wCLcB/s400/IMG_1295.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Nothing else to say about it really - never been happy about the neckline, too wide and it gaps a bit at the back neck - I have made adjustments to rectify future versions.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Today I met up with my friend Debs at the V&A to see the <a href="http://www.vam.ac.uk/exhibitions/botticelli-reimagined">Botticelli Reimagined</a> exhibition. Don't let me put you off if you are keen to see it, but we were a bit underwhelmed. We've been so impressed by previous exhibitions - Club to Catwalk, Hollywood Costumes, Wedding dresses, and particularly 'Bowie Is' and Alexander McQueen so maybe we expected too much of this, or maybe it was just not to our tastes - when you've seen a dozen 'Madonna and Child' you've seen them all in my humble opinion. I have to say that the colours were brilliant though, considering that they were painted in the 1400's.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Still there was fun to be had, even for a non-intellectual art lover - a very nice lunch and a catch up with Debbie who I only get to see a couple of times a year, a wander in the shop</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Not that you can really see anything of my dress in the photos, but here's a close up of the lovely fabric, a Liberty Wool Challis from <a href="http://www.backstitch.co.uk/wool-challis-stars-liberty-art-fabrics">Backstitch</a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This dress is hot off the machine - I only finished it yesterday, and I think its set to be a favourite.</div>

I've now got to the point in the month when there will inevitably be some repeat garments ....<br />
On day 21 I wore my striped Coco top with RTW jeans<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UUzLQ9814iI/V0NArTbHKtI/AAAAAAAAtJM/NGZ8ZP_5atcLsUo2AhE_De8NMz7uLQvhwCLcB/s1600/IMG_1276.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UUzLQ9814iI/V0NArTbHKtI/AAAAAAAAtJM/NGZ8ZP_5atcLsUo2AhE_De8NMz7uLQvhwCLcB/s400/IMG_1276.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Day 22 was another <a href="http://www.tillyandthebuttons.com/p/coco.html">Agnes</a>, this time in a fuchsia pink and white stripe, that I think I bought in Bournemouth last year, worn underneath my Camber top</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M7j2aA0Hf-0/V0NArJrZuTI/AAAAAAAAtJQ/ovv35d8TcmMP1bCpeDTrREyWwknXxtX8gCLcB/s1600/IMG_1287.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M7j2aA0Hf-0/V0NArJrZuTI/AAAAAAAAtJQ/ovv35d8TcmMP1bCpeDTrREyWwknXxtX8gCLcB/s400/IMG_1287.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
and today I'm wearing another <a href="https://themakersatelier.com/patterns/shell-dress-and-top">Makers Atelier top</a> in a different (but equally loud) scuba fabric</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
with my Ultimate trousers. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-buozPqigkDo/V0NArAsI1hI/AAAAAAAAtJU/u2sWbCzFE8oxrm-4PAOyykY6KYYnEs68QCKgB/s1600/IMG_1290.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-buozPqigkDo/V0NArAsI1hI/AAAAAAAAtJU/u2sWbCzFE8oxrm-4PAOyykY6KYYnEs68QCKgB/s400/IMG_1290.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Will try to find something new to wear for the rest of the week!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

We met for knitting at <a href="http://ginaferrari.blogspot.co.uk/">Gina's</a> today, which was great because not only did we get to meet her new puppy....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Aeio8drcfTw/Vz934_rtnEI/AAAAAAAAtI4/A-6_YC1av0wRhjOpXohtEXqJyo1pz10vwCLcB/s1600/mmm20-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Aeio8drcfTw/Vz934_rtnEI/AAAAAAAAtI4/A-6_YC1av0wRhjOpXohtEXqJyo1pz10vwCLcB/s400/mmm20-2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
but also, as luck would have it, we timed our visit to coincide with <a href="https://www.facebook.com/ApricotandFig">Cupcake Friday</a> - how's that for a bit of forward planning? Before we left I bought a box of Gina's freshly baked Sticky Toffee cupcakes, described as "<i>a </i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #1d2129; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;"><i>light date sponge topped with caramel buttercream and homemade fudge" - </i>all I can add is that they are absolutely delicious (and real, homemade fudge pieces on top -who else does that?!?!)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-f_ldrrg4RT8/Vz911WargrI/AAAAAAAAtIs/mxTGuQSre844KAm8T4e8RwBV2hmWt27HgCLcB/s1600/13221734_906467172795240_4918322304055431381_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-f_ldrrg4RT8/Vz911WargrI/AAAAAAAAtIs/mxTGuQSre844KAm8T4e8RwBV2hmWt27HgCLcB/s400/13221734_906467172795240_4918322304055431381_n.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #1d2129; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #1d2129; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">Anyway, back to Me-Made-May and today I wore a <a href="https://www.colettepatterns.com/catalog/aster">Colette Aster</a> shirt with pintucks on the front bodice and with a selection of various floral buttons. The fabric is a lovely chambray with little specks of colour in it - I know you can't see it in the photo but you'll have to take my word for it. I got it from Backstitch, and they still have it in stock <a href="http://www.backstitch.co.uk/robert-kaufman-chambray-union-nep-indigo">HERE</a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m3ae-G-FFbg/Vz9zVoTId8I/AAAAAAAAtIg/dbbPo-5DDNQe0C4mJdrAcndvCcxVNr5oQCLcB/s1600/mmm20.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m3ae-G-FFbg/Vz9zVoTId8I/AAAAAAAAtIg/dbbPo-5DDNQe0C4mJdrAcndvCcxVNr5oQCLcB/s400/mmm20.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Hmmm, I do love this vintage Laura Ashley scarf, but hadn't realised that it appears to bring out the rosiness of my cheeks ....</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #1d2129; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;"><br /></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KfzEv4SSHjI/Vz4Kv4lFjEI/AAAAAAAAtII/qNwyPYFtuCA7Jt26H6-ppLa6y7B2quRxwCLcB/s1600/mmm19.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KfzEv4SSHjI/Vz4Kv4lFjEI/AAAAAAAAtII/qNwyPYFtuCA7Jt26H6-ppLa6y7B2quRxwCLcB/s400/mmm19.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Hmm - not very flattering, at least not in this picture (I don't remember it looking like this on the size zero model on the pattern envelope) <br />
In fact, it looks like I have secreted a large fabric stash under my top.<br />
As if.vintagerockchickhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11771490446494303513noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3921790005752048713.post-82990721643217312152016-05-18T20:54:00.002+01:002016-05-18T20:54:22.005+01:00MMM 2016 - Day 18<div style="text-align: justify;">
Another day, yet another fabric shop.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Today Gina and I were at <a href="http://www.backstitch.co.uk/content/burwash-store/">Backstitch</a> for our Social Sew. (Gina's making a Factory Dress and I'm making my umpteenth Camber)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I wore another <a href="https://www.colettepatterns.com/catalog/laurel">Colette Laurel</a> dress, this time made in an embossed heavy jersey (some would say Crimplene) that I bought in Birmingham back in January. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5ZEgYfmDXbw/VzzG2PNl66I/AAAAAAAAtHw/gpBG1Y4dh50_hJ1lt7dZMQ66kJuVHhDRgCLcB/s1600/mmm18-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5ZEgYfmDXbw/VzzG2PNl66I/AAAAAAAAtHw/gpBG1Y4dh50_hJ1lt7dZMQ66kJuVHhDRgCLcB/s400/mmm18-1.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I think I now know why Crimplene lost its popularity - although it doesn't crease and is very easy care - it bobbles and catches easily. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
That and the fact it was mostly used for button-through pinafores beloved by elderly ladies.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Gosh, it feels like just a few hours ago that I was here last....</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I wasn't working today, but I called into the shop so you are spared the boring 'photo in the wardrobe mirror'. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Firstly a <a href="https://www.colettepatterns.com/catalog/laurel">Colette Laurel top</a> made with fabric from the <a href="http://thecreativesanctuary.co.uk/">Creative Sanctuary</a> worn with the first garment repeat so far this month - the <a href="http://shop.sewoverit.co.uk/products/ultimate-trousers">Sewoverit Ultimate trousers</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kiKKzSqMxnM/VztHNvjcKNI/AAAAAAAAtHA/iBmoiYxfU5A_WxtuD59-AHD80o7bp7EPQCLcB/s1600/MMM17-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kiKKzSqMxnM/VztHNvjcKNI/AAAAAAAAtHA/iBmoiYxfU5A_WxtuD59-AHD80o7bp7EPQCLcB/s400/MMM17-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
They don't look too bad from the front, but I got Kym to take a rear shot, more for my benefit than anything else, but I've decided to share it (you lucky people!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7cymlN9hoTs/VztI0k4LFWI/AAAAAAAAtHQ/xMAMuOxDqFM5YY9WKRmcHnCfv5Obp5OOACLcB/s1600/mmm17-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7cymlN9hoTs/VztI0k4LFWI/AAAAAAAAtHQ/xMAMuOxDqFM5YY9WKRmcHnCfv5Obp5OOACLcB/s400/mmm17-3.jpg" width="217" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-align: justify;">Ah, not so well fitting from the back then. I'd SO like to make the perfect trouser pattern, but I really don't know how to resolve this excess fabric problem.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Except, I suppose, to make longer tops.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Took a photo of yesterday's outfit, but then I forgot to post so now I'll have to do two posts today -</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Monday evening is guitar club, so in preparation, I wore my Me-Made music themed skirt, (it's got guitars and turntables and headphones on) made from my straight skirt block, together with a imitation suede Camber top</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3_Gm34bw-_M/VzrzMCu2M_I/AAAAAAAAtGo/1SemI1jH-dczelVmMJEkBvCxhi8yjGS_ACLcB/s1600/mmm16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3_Gm34bw-_M/VzrzMCu2M_I/AAAAAAAAtGo/1SemI1jH-dczelVmMJEkBvCxhi8yjGS_ACLcB/s400/mmm16.jpg" width="286" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And the boots which I bought for a fiver from a Spanish market over 20 years ago!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
